Week 2 blog - OP SYS Memory

Read this article on the evolution of operating systems. Specifically look at the section on OS memory. Use those higher-level cognitive skills (analysis, synthesis, and evaluation) to comment on the article. Is it helpful? Is it accurate? Is it complete? Let us know what you think about the article and then we'll delve into a course discussion on memory during the week. That may (or may not) change your opinions.

Personaly,I didn't find the article very helpful. The article explained a little about the evolution of the OS, particularlly how Microsoft played a big part, but it really explain how memory management has evolved. It tells you how an OS uses memory management in todays systems, not in older systems.

This article to me wasnt that useful, it did explain some parts of how the OS has evolved over the years but this article mostly goes into depth about how microsoft played a major role in the evolution of the OS

Nice class today learnt quite alot about operating systems and the space management process and was able to see the pros and cons of different systems and how things have really developed over time.Very interesting looking foward to next class.

I find the article to be helpful. Its of great importance for me to understand the concept of Memory Management. Now that we covered this in part in class today, I have a better understanding of this article an how important memory management plays an is essential to any OS. Current OS like Windows have incorperated swaping and paging, where past OS (like DOS) didnt have this ability to swap pages or segments of data copied in the main memory by the OS. The ability to execute programs and manipulate data files larger then the main memory is good use of the computer overhaul which we discussed today in class also. Reason being is the remaining data that the OS couldnt copy to main memory, remains on a disk, and when needed there's an exchange. Very Helpful

The article was a decent introduction and history of the Widnows OS but not very useful if you are learning about the Memory Manager. It didn’t cover the evolution of memory management or how it related to the evolution of the Windows OS. This article isn’t useful for a class such as ours since it doesn’t delve into memory management in any real detail.

This article wasn't very helpful to me either. All it really did was just present a bunch of interesting facts about OS's over the years. When it gets to the part about Memory Management it hardly gives you any useful information that you wouldn't already know.

The article didn't explain more about the OS memory. It only gives a little bit of definition about OS memory. The article explains a lot of how the operating systems evolved and what are the different kinds of operating system and from what company it came from. I find the article very helpful about how OS evolves but not about the OS memory.

It was good reading but not enough. Im glad I know the evolution of the OS but not enough about the history of memory. But some information is better then no information.

I found the reading material to be helpful into understanding how the operating system evolved. The operating software, the brief history of the hardware, the different types of operating systems, and the development of the operating system, all gave me a deeper insight into what I didnt know or understand in reference to a operating system.

This article was just a brief summary of the evolution of what seemed to be windows, it only brushed on other operating systems out there, I’m sure they have evolved also. I think the person who wrote this was a Microsoft lover!

For a person who has very little knowledge of computers and operating systems, this article would have been helpful. However, personally I did not find it helpful. The article basically was a recap of information which I already knew about. I felt that the article mainly touched on Microsoft Windows and didn't really do into depth on other operating systems.

The article was a helful as a brochure in Chuck E. Cheese's. Thought accurate it felt bland and left holes as an incomplete register.

The article is far from complete. It covers a good bit of the general concepts, but the language is nearly incomprehensible in places and overall I think I'm more confused after reading it than I was before. I feel that the article could easily have presented more complete, accurate information than it did had it used a different format. As it is, the bullet points make it very difficult to follow the ideas being presented and many thoughts appear to be left incomplete.

Unlike a few others, I found the article to be quite helpful. It provides general information about operating systems in a way to allow the average user to understand. The links that are provided in the article are extremely helpful for each operating system. However, the article did not provide enough detail about operating systems memory. If you do click the links about each operating system then you can find a little more detail but a computer’s operating system can be so complex that it would be difficult to go into too much detail without writing a book. Articles are meant to be brief and generalized. The details should be left up to the authors of our textbooks…LOL.

I agree in that this article isn't very useful. It appears to be more of a general reference guide as it touches on some of the highlights of operating systems but does not give many details. It would be good information for someone who knows very little about computers and operating systems. I learned a great deal more from the lecture.

I can agree with the fact that the article developed a nice outline that discussed the evolution and changes the Operating System went through over the last 30 years, but it lack any real detail into those evolutions overall.
