Origami Project -- release info 3/2/06

Microsoft tries hard to keep ahead of the competition. Mobile (wireless)computing is undeniably the future and the Origami Project is Microsoft's latest attempt at breaking off a piece of the mobile computing future. What do you think - is something bigger than an iPod, but smaller than a laptop, going to replace the PC? What adjustments will be needed to make it more than a toy?

Look at this site -- the big release is tomorrow -- and then blog on!

I believe the Flashdrive is going to advance in technology. It will hold a complete OS as well as other components we currently install on our computers and we will not need to have any OS on our computers anymore. Possibly, our computers will only need a hard drive and maybe a few other things but it's just a guess and I still have much to learn. The flashdrive is going to hold everything we need for us to comunicate with our computers.

The Origami seems to be like a small/midsize SUV. While it is not as big as say a Laptop (large SUV). It is not a compact either. With higher gas prices the small/midsize SUV has become the leading seller. The same thing might happen with the Origami. One thing we do know is that some will buy just for the sake of it. Some will wait and see, and the others will not be able to afford it at first.
I think Microsoft has already taken steps to make it more than a toy with the new phone by Verizon, the PalmOne Treo 700w. This system has a scaled down office suite on it, complete with word, excel and power point so there must be a demand for it.
One thing for sure it will be interesting to see how the market reacts.
I do not think we are at the point of having it all on a flash drive yet, but that does not mean it won’t happen, just as I don’t think the majority will give up the lap top either, but then again you never know. At least you can say one thing; Microsoft is not going to get blind sided again, they are taking chances and putting it out there. Some say the devil, some say genius, but in the end it is business pure and simple and trying to stay ahead of Moore’ law which is 40 years old this year.

The big news here is the "student" version, which was previously known as the "Student and Teacher" edition. Microsoft introduced that version with Office v.X for the Mac and Office 2003, and the company allowed it to be sold in just about every possible retail location. The end result was that people who were neither students nor teachers were buying the edition because of its low price, and Microsoft didn't care. With 2007, the company is formally acknowledging that many people just want a few apps for the lowest cost possible, now pitching the $149 price point for both academic and home settings.i think this is a better deal aahh

a Microsoft mobile platform device that is "wearable, always on, no larger than 10 inches, connected through 3G networks, pen-based", it was found that there existed a Microsoft registered site OrigamiProject.com. Though nothing is known, it is clear that the project will be launched on March 2, 2006. It is believed to stand for a new mobile platform, between Windows Mobile and the superior Windows XP Tablet PC Edition.

Wireless can and in a lot of cases is already secure. It is just a matter of having the right equipment. The military already has it and a lot of higher end companies do too. So it is just a matter of time. I can remember when a regular computers cost several thousands of dollars. Now you can get a very powerful one for less than 500. I think we need to look at all the evidence before we pass judgment. If it is good then we will know it. If it doesn’t live up to the hype then it will be something that will sit on the shelves.
Either way wireless is moving forward. Look at cell phones. If you leave home with out it then you turn around to go get; how can this be? Ten years ago hardly anyone except business people had one. Now
10 years have them. I do not know anymore about this you all but I do know enough to give it chance.

The UMPC is not going to replace the PC. Most people like to be able to look at an actual screen when there doing things on the computer. Secondly, it is a lot easier to break (especially when it comes to kids). But, the more technology they come out with, the more people will buy and buy and buy. I don't see my self buying one of these. I bought a hand held pc (hp) that cost me close to three hundred bucks and believe me when I say that was a piece of junk.

I believe that people think that smaller is better. I think it will be great for bisness but personal uses i dont see a need for one. the way they are coming up new tech i dont think people should go all out and buy it like the flashdrive about to be your pc and ipods imporvments i will stick to my laptop.
